Light My Bricks App Privacy Policy
Effective date: 20 July 2026
1. About this policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Light My Bricks Pty Ltd ("Light My Bricks", "we", "us" or "our") collects, uses, discloses and protects information when you use the Light My Bricks mobile application (the "App") with a Halo Smart Hub.
This policy applies to information handled through the App. Our websites and online stores are governed by our general Privacy Policy and may be subject to additional terms.
2. Information we collect
Depending on the features you use, the App and its service providers may collect or process the following information.
Technical account information
The App automatically creates a pseudonymous technical account to connect your Halo Smart Hub to the supporting cloud service. This may include:
- a randomly generated account identifier and authentication credential;
- an identifier assigned by the cloud service;
- a country or regional code derived from your device settings; and
- the identifier and name of the technical home associated with your Halo Smart Hub.
The technical account is generally pseudonymous and is used to provide the App and Halo Smart Hub services rather than as a public user profile.
Halo Smart Hub and usage information
We may collect or process:
- Halo Smart Hub, home and service identifiers and names;
- registration, association, activation and connectivity information;
- device settings, commands, status, usage and information reported by the Halo Smart Hub;
- firmware and update information; and
- information relating to setup, network changes, errors and device operation.
Wi-Fi and commissioning information
During initial setup or a later network change, the App provides the selected Wi-Fi network name, or SSID, and password to the Tuya Matter commissioning SDK so that the Halo Smart Hub can join that network.
Tuya's SDK and associated services may transmit, process or temporarily retain Wi-Fi credentials and related network information as part of commissioning, device activation, cloud association, security, fault diagnosis and service operation. Diagnostic records relating to a commissioning attempt may also be generated.
Light My Bricks and its service providers use Wi-Fi credentials and related network information only as reasonably necessary for commissioning, network configuration, security, troubleshooting and operation of the Halo Smart Hub service. We take reasonable steps to limit access to and retention of this information.
Mobile-device and diagnostic information
We and our service providers may collect:
- device, operating-system and App information;
- language, locale, country or region;
- network and connectivity information;
- crash, error, performance and operational diagnostics; and
- other technical context reasonably needed to provide, secure, support or improve the App and Halo Smart Hub service.
Feedback and support information
If you choose to submit feedback or request support, we collect the information you provide. This may include feedback text, contact details and attachments that you choose to submit.
3. How we use information
We use information to:
- create and maintain the technical account required to operate the service;
- discover, commission and associate a Halo Smart Hub;
- provide device controls, state synchronisation and connectivity information;
- carry out firmware checks and updates;
- diagnose pairing, connectivity, firmware and operational failures;
- secure the App, Halo Smart Hub and supporting services;
- respond to feedback and support requests;
- maintain and improve reliability and compatibility;
- comply with legal obligations; and
- establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
Where applicable law requires a legal basis, we process information as necessary to provide the requested service, for our legitimate interests in maintaining and securing the App and Halo Smart Hub, with your consent where requested, or to comply with applicable law.
4. Tuya cloud and SDK services
We use the Smart Life App SDK and associated services provided by Tuya Smart Inc. and its affiliated companies ("Tuya").
Tuya provides technology used for:
- the pseudonymous technical account;
- Matter commissioning and cloud association;
- Halo Smart Hub registration and device management;
- state synchronisation and remote control;
- connectivity monitoring;
- firmware information and updates; and
- technical diagnostics and support.
Information processed through this integration may include technical account identifiers, home and Halo Smart Hub information, device state and commands, firmware information, mobile-device information, diagnostic information, network identifiers and Wi-Fi credentials used during commissioning.
Tuya may share applicable information with its infrastructure, security, data-analysis and technical-support providers where necessary to provide or protect the service. Tuya's own processing practices are described in its SmartLife App SDK Privacy Policy.
Light My Bricks remains responsible for its use of the Tuya integration and for responding to privacy requests relating to the App. We do not disclaim responsibility merely because information is processed by Tuya or another service provider.
5. Error reporting and feedback through Sentry
We use Sentry, a service provided by Functional Software, Inc., to receive crash reports, operational diagnostics and feedback.
Information sent to Sentry may include:
- crash and error information;
- App and operating-system versions;
- device model and technical environment;
- limited operational context relating to the failure; and
- feedback, contact details and attachments that you choose to submit.
We use Sentry in a manner intended to limit diagnostic information to what is reasonably necessary for error monitoring, support, security and service improvement. The information available in a report may vary depending on the error, device, App version and features being used.
Sentry's practices are described in the Sentry Privacy Policy.
6. Device permissions
The App may request the following permissions:
- Bluetooth: to discover and communicate with a nearby Halo Smart Hub during setup.
- Local network: to discover and communicate with devices on your network.
- Location or nearby-device permission: where required by iOS or Android for Bluetooth discovery, Wi-Fi network identification or device commissioning.
We use location or nearby-device information for device discovery, commissioning, network identification, security and related App functionality. We do not use this information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.
You can revoke permissions through your device settings. Some setup or connectivity features may stop working if a required permission is disabled.
7. When we disclose information
We may disclose information:
- to Tuya, Sentry and other service providers that help us operate, secure and support the App and Halo Smart Hub;
- to professional advisers, auditors, insurers and security specialists where reasonably necessary;
- where required by law, court order or a lawful government request;
- to investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents or violations of applicable terms;
- to protect the rights, safety and property of users, Light My Bricks or others; or
- as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, restructuring or sale of all or part of our business, subject to appropriate protections.
We do not sell App information. We do not use App information for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking, and we do not share it with data brokers.
8. Overseas processing
Light My Bricks is based in Australia. Tuya, Sentry and their service providers operate internationally, so information may be transferred to, stored in or accessed from countries outside Australia.
Depending on the service configuration and the support or infrastructure required, these countries may include Germany, the Netherlands, the United States, Singapore, India and China.
Privacy and government-access laws in those countries may differ from Australian law. We take reasonable steps to use service providers that apply contractual, organisational and technical safeguards to information they process.
Overseas processing does not remove Light My Bricks' responsibilities under applicable Australian privacy law.
9. Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary to:
- provide and maintain the App and Halo Smart Hub services;
- maintain security, prevent abuse and investigate faults;
- provide support;
- comply with legal, accounting or regulatory obligations; and
- resolve disputes or enforce agreements.
Retention periods depend on the type of information, its sensitivity and the reason it is required. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.
Some information may remain temporarily in protected backups, security records or service-provider systems until those records are overwritten or expire. Information required by law or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention or legal claims may be retained for a longer period.
10. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration and disclosure.
Our safeguards may include encryption, access controls, secure storage, data minimisation, monitoring and contractual requirements for service providers, as appropriate to the information and risks involved.
No electronic transmission or storage system is completely secure. You should use a trusted Wi-Fi network, protect access to your mobile device and install relevant App, operating-system and Halo Smart Hub firmware updates.
11. Access, correction and deletion
Depending on applicable law, you may ask us to:
- provide access to personal information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- delete information;
- restrict or object to certain processing;
- provide a portable copy of eligible information;
- withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; or
- explain how we handled a privacy request.
The App automatically creates a pseudonymous Tuya technical account when required for Halo Smart Hub services. You can initiate deletion of that account and its associated cloud information using the deletion control in the App's settings. If you cannot access the App or the in-app request cannot be completed, contact us using the details below.
After an in-app deletion request is accepted, locally stored technical account credentials and home context are removed. Account deletion may affect access to Halo Smart Hubs associated with the account and may require them to be set up again.
Account deletion may involve a short cancellation period during which the request can be reversed if the same account is used again. After the cancellation process is completed, we and our service providers will delete or de-identify associated information that is no longer required, subject to technical limitations and any legal, security or dispute-related retention requirements.
Deleting the App from your device does not by itself delete an associated technical account or information already processed by cloud providers.
For a request made outside the App, we may need information sufficient to identify the relevant App installation or technical account and verify that the request is authorised. We will not ask for your Wi-Fi password.
12. Children
The App is not intended to collect personal information directly from children without appropriate involvement from a parent or guardian.
If a child uses the App to operate a Halo Smart Hub, a parent or guardian should supervise setup and the provision of network or support information. If you believe that a child has provided personal information without appropriate authorisation, contact us so that we can investigate and take appropriate action.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes to the App, Halo Smart Hub services, service providers, legal requirements or our information-handling practices.
The current version will be published at https://www.lightmybricks.com/pages/app-privacy and will show its effective date. Publication at that page is our usual method of notifying you of changes, and you should review this policy periodically. Changes apply from the effective date shown. If applicable law requires a different form of notice or consent for a change, we will provide that notice or obtain that consent.
14. Contact and complaints
For privacy questions, requests or complaints, contact:
