Hi, I’m Lenie, a designer here at Light My Bricks. I’ve always loved horror—creepy houses, spooky movies, and all things supernatural. So when I heard that customers had requested lights for the LEGO® Haunted Mansion, I knew this project was meant for me. Bringing eerie, atmospheric lighting to a set like this was a dream come true, and I couldn’t wait to capture that perfect mix of scares and ambience.

Lighting Inspiration

Inspired by films like Monster House and Frankenweenie, the LEGO® Haunted Mansion is a dream project for builders who love a good scare. From the very first step through the gates, lighting plays a huge role in setting the scene. The pumpkin and lantern are illuminated by Astro Micro Warm White lights, casting a soft but unsettling glow across Lady Dracula’s face, as if she’s waiting to welcome you to the graveyard.

Inside, the atmosphere grows even darker. Above the doorway and across the roof, Astro Large Flickering Orange lights bathe the organ in a haunting, fiery shimmer, while additional Micro Warm White lights create the illusion of candlelit halls.

At the heart of the build is the ghostly jump-scare. A Warm White Flicker Effect light is positioned above the ghost itself, making the figure seem to fade in and out of existence as it appears and vanishes. On the opposite side of the mansion, another Warm White Flicker Effect light mirrors the effect, ensuring the unsettling glow feels balanced across the build.

Downstairs, the tension builds with Astro Green-to-Orange colour changing lights placed above the grandfather clock and in the adjoining room. Their eerie transitions highlight the skeleton and Frankenstein figures, perfectly blending spooky menace with playful detail.

All of this is neatly powered by Dock 6 and a 30cm belt, hidden along the side of the build to keep everything tidy while driving the full haunted experience.

The standout feature of this Haunted Mansion is the interplay of flickering and colour-changing lights that create an authentically spooky feel.

The Warm White Flicker Effect lights are especially impactful—one directly above the ghost jump-scare to highlight its sudden appearance, and another mounted on the opposite side to spread the eerie glow throughout the house. These lights mimic the feel of lanterns or candlelight in motion, perfect for a haunted setting.

Meanwhile, the Astro Green-to-Orange lights steal the show in the downstairs rooms. Their seamless colour shifts fill the mansion with a sense of sinister energy, transforming ordinary LEGO® bricks into a chilling, cinematic scene.

Together, these effects work in harmony, spilling their glow through the front windows and giving the Haunted Mansion a presence that feels truly alive with supernatural activity.
